In 1970, we did some recording at Rockfield in Monmouth, however, the result was never released. I eventually did try for the 'big time', turning professional for a short time, unfortunately, some personnel changes and bad luck meant we never made it. If you have reached this far, you deserve a medal. Like most people, the older you get, early recollections get more important and you long for the odd memento. I have very few mementos of those times, just a poorly recorded tape of us playing in a youth club and one little newspaper advert. I'm sure we played with other people as well, but their names escape me for the moment. Never mind, I lived. In 1971, I left the music world and joined the Royal Air Force, spending 22 years in the musical wilderness, only occasionally playing my salmon pink, pre CBS Strat. I played a few times with some fellow members of a Harrier Squadron, when based in Germany. These were mainly fun events, 'entertaining' other Squadron members whilst on exercise or deployments in Germany & Sardinia. For a while, I had a cheap Dallas acoustic and teamed up with a chap who could sing, when stationed in Stanmore. We played some of the acoustic clubs in the surrounding area. Eventually the singer was posted and my music career appeared to be coming to an end. Things got so bad, that I eventually sold the Strat in 1980 and was guitar-less until I bought a Martin D28 in 1993, when I left the RAF. This was followed, 18 months later, by my first electric guitar, a Fender Strat, for nearly 14 years. I haven't stopped since then and now have several guitars and amplifiers taking up valuable space in my humble abode. At least thats what my wife tells me. Personally, I think they add a bit of glamour to the house. I have recently consolidated my collection to those shown on my gear page. No doubt, I may add one or two in the future!! |
